Femxle-founded + led, we deeply value intersectionality + actively strive to support + celebrate those whose voices are underrepresented. We aim to be a force for good + for change by giving all who participate in our events an inclusive, fun + friendly platform to showcase + sell their work at; make community connections through; and develop their creative enterprises via.

(
We’re a fledgling organisation, so our ethos is evolving as we learn + develop: you’re currently reading version 1.0.1 (last updated 16.06.2020)… In the spirit of openness + inclusivity, we welcome any feedback or suggestions.)

MISSION

“Craft a fair, inclusive, affordable + sustainable platform that provides artists, designer-makers, performers + other DIY creatives with an art market event + online space to showcase + sell their work through.”

BACKGROUND

Founded solely to provide a platform for creatives local to the Harringay Warehouse District, we knew we were onto something very special after our very first event in Dec 2019, which attracted 1,200 visitors who came to see 75+ exhibitors + 8 performers, and donated a crate’s worth of food to Tottenham Foodbank.

For our second event, we went even bigger + doubled the scale of our first, holding it across two days on International Womxn's Day weekend (March 7+8 2020). This time, we attracted 1,700 visitors; showcased 130+ designer-maker stalls + 17 performers; and raised £300 + 3 crates' worth of food + sanitary product donations for Tottenham Foodbank.

We had a lot of fun making it all happen, and feedback from exhibitors + visitors was overwhelmingly positive.

VALUES

Be inclusive

While we curate our events + our online platforms, we firmly believe in including people regardless of age, race, gender identity, sexuality, religion or any other factor.

Through the way we organise our events + how/what we communicate via our online platforms, we aim to actively + mindfully include those who might otherwise be excluded or marginalised.

Our community actively rejects racism, ableism, sexism, ageism, homophobia, transphobia, fatphobia + hatred, discrimination, prejudice or bias of any kind.

If you experience this in any way, shape or form in relation to our organisation, please email n4makersmarket@gmail.com.

BE HELPFUL

We're influenced by the principles of Shine Theory – the practice of mutual investment in each other, helping others to succeed + knowing we can reach out for help from others too.

Shine Theory is recognising that true confidence is infectious, and is a commitment to asking, “Would we be better as collaborators than as competitors?” The answer is almost always yes.

Be TRANSPARENT

We aim always to be transparent about how we run our events, and we strongly encourage all who participate as exhibitors, performers, visitors or otherwise to embody that same transparency, whether that’s with pricing, sourcing or communicating.

BE A POSITIVE VOICE

We give very careful consideration to the language we use when we communicate, and are mindful of not excluding anyone from opportunities or conversations.

BE SUSTAINABLE

We want our events to be sustainable for people, community, and the environment. We believe art can have a restorative, connective + overall positive impact on the world we live in, and hope that by bringing people together at our events to support the arts + share ideas, conversations, questions + experiences, we help to make a contribution to + have a positive impact on our community.
